The star has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize cash to the MVT, which works to preserve the Britain's small music venues.

Fender was awarded the award on October 16 as his latest record the album was declared the top album of the last 12 months.

The musician has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the crucial part grassroots venues fulfilled in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing my current career if it weren't for all the performances I did around the region, and further afield, when I was beginning," said Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – about one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, well-known musicians including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by including a modest fee to their ticket costs, which benefits independent venues.

Sam Fender also participated, raising in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to assist thirty-eight small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation assisted locations that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from floods, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Additional spaces were granted monetary aid in upgrading amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted performers and audiences.

"The notion that money from performances in major spaces supports the local stages, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has said.

He is among several artists to donate his honor funds to worthy causes.

Back when the band earned the award in the year 1996 for their album their work, frontman the singer declared that the act would contribute their winnings to the organization the charity.

That year, musician Ms Dynamite divided her award among multiple organizations, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also contributed a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked updated gear," she told a publication.

Two years ago, they gave their funds to the youth organization that nurtured their act, alongside other independent music bodies.

Additionally winners that year M People gave their award to a MS organization after a friend was diagnosed the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," stated singer Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our success affected somebody else's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

One venue in that area and the second in that location were purchased under the community ownership initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and music fans who purchase "stakes" in the properties.
