Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the substance was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior representative commented the attack left him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
